Greenfield Fire Territory

Greenfield Fire Territory began operations November 17, 1894 as the Greenfield Fire Department, the City of Greenfield and Center Township entered into an agreement in 2008 creating the Greenfield Fire Territory which encompasses and area of 52 square miles as the primary response area. The Greenfield Fire Territory has a Class 3/3X ISO Rating

The Greenfield Fire Territory provides fire protection, emergency medical services, hazardous materials response, technical rescue and fire prevention services to the City of Greenfield and Center Township in Hancock County. This area has an estimated resident population of over 28,000.

The Greenfield Fire Territory operates from two fire stations, Station 421 (Headquarters) is located in downtown Greenfield and Station 422 is located on the north side. Each station operates an engine company and a paramedic ambulance. Station 421 also staffs a ladder/tower, tanker, heavy rescue and a hazardous materials truck.

There are six (6) full time administrative positions: Chief, Deputy Chief, Division Chief of Training and Safety, Division Chief / Fire Marshal and an Office Manager. All but the Office Manager have emergency operations responsibilities. GFT also employs a part time administrative assistant and has two department chaplains. The emergency operations shift staff includes fifty two (52) sworn firefighters among three shifts. All firefighters are EMT's and nineteen (19) are paramedics. They work a standard rotating shift of twenty-four (24) hours on-duty and forty-eight (48) hours off-duty.

The Greenfield Fire Territory participates in the Hancock County Technical Rescue Team. The Team was created to pool the resources of the Greenfield Fire Territory and the Sugar Creek Township Fire Department to enhance the response to technical rescue situations.

The Greenfield Fire Territory is the busiest fire department in Hancock County, responding to more than 5000 emergency calls annually. Approximately 80% of those calls are emergency medical responses.

The Greenfield Fire Territory jurisdiction includes an industrial/warehouse district, numerous residential neighborhoods, multiple retail complexes, and rural agricultural areas; this includes several miles of interstate and state highways.
